Getting Creative With Effects
Picasa 3 editing has a feature called soft focus. This is not an edit you would normally do if you wanted to enhance a photo, as it is more on the artistic side. However, if you want to get a little creative, you might try it as you can get some lovely results.
Here is an image I took on a morning walk the other day. It came out rather pale, so I chose to saturate it slightly. The photo looked better, but all in all I was not happy with it. So I decided to explore some of the other edit features in Picasa 3. Picasa has three editing sections, and they are located at the top of the page.
For the photo editing I did on this picture, I just used the choices under "Effects".
There are many otherEffect you can choose, such as Black and White, Sepia, Glow, Graduated Tint and so on.
I clicked on Effects, and chose Saturate. There is a slider where you can create more or less saturation for your picture. The roses were actually pink when I photgraphed them, but they looked very washed out in the photo. It was pretty dark outside, and I used the flash, which was a mistake. I could have taken the picture without the flash, and then just brightened it up. However, I was able to fix it with some editing.
I then decided to try Soft Focus. Wow, this was a lot of fun! I could make the photo very soft looking, almost blurred.
When you choose Soft Focus, there are two sliders. The first one is called Size, and it allows you to choose how much of your image you want to keep in true focus. The second slider lets you decide how soft or sharp you want that area to be.
As mentioned this is an edit that you can get creative with.
Although Picasa has different ways to save photos, what I like to do is just do a Save As and place the edited picture in the same folder as the original. I always save my original photos.
